Katelyn + Michael

We had met Katelyn a month before our wedding (we share the same wedding month!) and we were so grateful to meet another fellow photographer who had such a warm, genuine, and sweet personality. We felt an instant connection with Katelyn and later met her husband, Michael. We frequently meet up with Katelyn + Michael whenever we’re in the Richmond area, it’s so refreshing and encouraging to chat with someone who also knows the wedding industry. We were beyond excited when Katelyn suggested we swap sessions with each other this winter before wedding season started. As most of you know Katelyn isn’t just any photographer – she’s Katelyn James. It is such a wonderful and daunting task to shoot with another great photographer, seeing how they work and how they make the “magic” happen. Additionally, it’s amazing to see how two photographers can be in the same location at the same time, yet take entirely different imagery that represents their own aesthetic and vision.

Katelyn + Michael traveled up to our area for a weekend getaway a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, the rainy weather wasn’t entirely in our favor the day we had scheduled the session, so we waited until the next morning. It’s always a challenge finding beautiful light when you’re shooting mid-day, but we made it work. We are so thankful for the beautiful images Katelyn created for us and we were additionally thankful to shoot her and Michael and their pup, Bokeh!

Nikki + Ian | wedding

Kurt + I had the pleasure of working with Nikki + Ian on their gorgeous Fall wedding back in September. Their wedding was filled with so much emotion and love, it was absolutely beautiful to witness and capture. Their wedding was held at the quaint Inn at Old Virginia in Staunton, Virginia…such a beautiful backdrop for their wedding. All of their details were so cute and unique to Nikki + Ian…oh and you have to check out the peacock feathers in each of the bouquets…such a unique touch! Enjoy these two love birds

Leah + Travis | wedding

Leah + Travis are one of the sweetest couple’s we’ve been fortunate to work with. Their love for each other just shines through…seriously…they both light up when they look at each other. As their photographers, we couldn’t help but smile while capturing these two…ahh bliss! They had planned their intimate wedding from Florida and chose Cave Ridge Vineyard as their wedding venue. Leah looked gorgeous in her Justin Alexander lace gown. The Artistic Florist designed the gorgeous florals, the Italian meal was courtesy of Cross Roads Catering, and Nathan King kept the dance floor going all night long. Enjoy these two lovebirds

Staci + Srijak | wedding, part II

Day two of Staci + Srijak’s backyard wedding was nothing short of amazing. They put so many unique DIY details into their wedding and really personalized it to reflect themselves. They also incorporated some 4th of July elements into their details, but with a modern twist. To top off the day, we had some of the most amazing light around sunset and a fireworks display. Enjoy this amazing couple!

Staci + Srijak | wedding, part I

We are so EXCITED to share this next wedding with you!! This past weekend we had the honor of documenting Staci + Srijak’s amazing wedding. The wedding took place over an entire weekend, so we’ve had to break the post into two parts. We had never captured, or even witnessed, a Hindu wedding before theirs…oh let me tell you, it was an incredible experience. Everything was so colorful and beautiful, from the elegant saris to the elaborate altar. Staci + Srijak, along with their family and friends, were so hospitable and sweet and made the experience even more special. Check out the magic from day one…

They provided slushies and some delicious beverages for their guests during the ceremony, since the ceremony was over two hours long!

um…a gelato stand?! amazing!

Heather + Adam | wedding

A couple weeks ago Kurt + I had the opportunity to work with Heather + Adam on their beautiful outdoor wedding. You might recall we had previously worked with Heather on her bridal portraits a couple months ago. Working with her and now Adam this go around was such a joy! Heather + Adam are so sweet together and they were constantly making each other smile. Heather has this infectious laugh (along with the rest of the girls in her bridal party) and fun, carefree personality that made her wedding so relaxed and laid back. Enjoy these two lovebirds!

Rebekah + Eric | wedding

Rebekah + Eric had a beautiful intimate wedding last week. They had only hired us for a small portion during the day, but allotted LOTS of time for pictures. After the ceremony, we wandered around downtown Harrisonburg for their portraits and finished up at Klines, where we treated them to ice cream. Check out the magic from their day…

Rebekah chose to use fabric flowers in lieu of real flowers for her wedding, which she found on Etsy! We love seeing unique alternatives for bouquets and boutonnieres.

Save the Date! | our wedding

We’ve been extremely busy shooting weddings this summer, but also planning our own, which is coming up in October!! I’m finally able to reveal our save the dates to everyone, since they are now mailed out. It took us some time to figure out what exactly we wanted to do with our save the date…we didn’t want to go traditional, but we also wanted to keep it simple, since we’re going all out for our invitations (blog post coming later this summer) Sooo…we came up with this crossword puzzle save the date! We LOVE crossword puzzles and do at least one every single day (literally!). We thought it was the perfect way to give our guests some clues to our wedding and it’s completely interactive.

Leah + Travis | Engaged!

OMG…I’m so excited to share this e-session! Leah + Travis were simply amazing to work with…it was literally nonstop laughter with these two. We just clicked instantly and everything fell into place. Leah + Travis are actually planning a destination wedding in September right here in Virginia. They made a long trek from Florida to have their e-session with us. Leah + Travis had come up with so many great ideas for their e-session, one of them being a rustic picnic and shucking corn…so we flew with the ideas. We had Lynn of Sunshowers and Rainshine help with the styling, which was absolute perfection! So…enjoy this fabulous couple!!

Leah + Travis: You guys were an absolute dream to work with! We can’t wait to document your wedding in September!!

Stephanie + Ches | wedding

Stephanie + Ches are such an amazing couple (we say this about all of our couples…but they truly are!). We were so fortunate to witness and capture such a beautiful marriage. One of the main reasons we love photography is that we have the honor of documenting the love, passion, and emotion that fills each wedding, whether that’s laughter or tears, it’s these natural expressions that make our job so rewarding. With Stephanie + Ches, the entire ceremony was filled with emotion…so sweet and beautiful! They were married at the Serenity Garden, a small garden in Waynesboro, VA that is dedicated to cancer survivors. When we first met with Stephanie + Ches, Stephanie had told us she is a cancer survivor and this garden was meaningful to her because of the adversity she had endured years ago. To honor Stephanie and her story, they laid a brick for her on the garden pathway. To end the evening, the reception was held in their backyard…a tent, food, and LOTS of dancing! :) Enjoy!

Stephanie + Ches: You guys are amazing! Stephanie, you were such a radiant and beautiful bride. May you both be blessed in your marriage!
