Kirsten + Russell traveled from Tennessee for their engagement session last week. They met while in college at William and Mary in Williamsburg. They both have a love for classic literature and old world history, as they both studied literature in college. They are also in the Army so they’ve had to spend a lot of their relationship apart from each other and often sent each other love letters. In one particular love letter Kirsten wrote to Russell, she quoted one of her favorite poems by John Donne, so they wanted to center their engagement session around this poem. The poem, “A Valediction Forbidding Mourning” describes two lovers who are separated, though distance cannot keep them apart. Kirsten wanted to also include an old math compass, as it is symbolized in the Donne poem as well. Kirsten further describes the poem, “the speaker and his true love are like the legs of a compass; when the one moves away, it encircles the other, which remains fixed, like “home.”
