Year in Review | 2011 weddings

Happy 2012!! We can hardly believe another wedding season has passed and soon enough we will be starting our 2012 season. 2011 brought so many blessings for us…we worked with THE best couples, traveled all over the US and shot our first international wedding, hosted our first workshop with one of our favorite husband/wife duos, Kellan Studios, were published and featured on lots of blogs and magazines, and worked with some incredible vendors as well. We are so grateful for every single opportunity we had this year and are excited to see what’s in store for us in 2012. First off, we wanted to thank our 2011 couples for everything! Seriously, we don’t know how we got so lucky to work with some of the nicest, sweetest, and most creative people this year. We were truly blessed by each one of them.

This last “year in review” post is entirely dedicated to our 2011 wedding clients. Going back through each wedding was rather emotional for us and selecting these images was especially difficult (it’s taken us days), as we have lots of favorite images from this past year. Today we are sharing with you our favorite wedding florals that we were so lucky to photograph this year. We loved the variety of flowers used in all of our weddings and the lovely color schemes that complimented each wedding. We love all of these florals, which ones are your favorites?

The Southern Experience Workshop | Part I

This August we, along with Kellan Studios, hosted a workshop, The Southern Experience. Our workshop had been in the works since last August and we wanted to throw a photography workshop that not only had in-depth teaching, but also one with super styled shoots that reflected a wedding. Our entire workshop was geared specifically to Southern photographers, so we wanted to play up that Southern theme with not only our styled shoots, but the location, cuisine, and decor. The workshop took place at the stunning Pharsalia Plantation in Tyro, VA. Pharsalia is the epitome of the South, located on the top of a hill, with gorgeous orchards, tons of gardens, stables, and rich in history. Seriously brides…you HAVE to check this plantation out…such a gorgeous venue for a wedding!

Our teaching portion focused specifically on how to achieve and refine a photographic vision, and the shooting portion gave our attendees a chance to build their portfolio as well as face real life scenarios. We as host and hostesses were so thankful with how well everything fell into place, and how so many of our sponsors, vendors, and models gave so much for this endeavor to be a success. Not only that, we were so overwhelmed by our AMAZING attendees…such a talented group of photographers who blessed us in so many ways.

This first portion (one of three!!) focused mainly on shooting a bridal session. Kelly of Kellan Studios and I went over the “getting ready” portion of a wedding and working with a bride on her wedding day. We chose two rooms in Pharsalia to conduct our session. Many thanks to Kristin, our bride, for helping us achieve our vision for this session…isn’t she stunning?! We wanted Kristin to have a more editorial look, so we found a pink vintage dress from the 1960s on Etsy, which actually ended up needing LOTS of alterations. Thanks to Lynn of Sunshowers and Rainshine for perfecting this dress! Kristin’s head piece was donated by Melanie of One Little Dove…bride’s check out Melanie’s bridal accessories, they are so beautiful! The stunning pink bouquet was donated by Elisha of Petal Flower Company. Enjoy this first part of The Southern Experience!
